"Book lovers never go to bed alone"

Contemporary Scottish writer Iain Banks has turned his hand to time/space travel and as with his Culture novels he has a new take on the genre. Who wouldn't like to be able to drop a little pill and jump into the body of somone else in another dimensional version of Earth.
Sounds like fun, but there are people who want to control this ability and manipulate time for their own needs. Or maybe the whole thing is just the imagination of a strange guy in a mental hospital.

As with the subject this novel jumps around a lot, from character to character.
