Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence

Book 1 in a new series called The Broken Empire starts with the novel The Prince of Thorns. It is a dark and brutal story but an intriguing revenge based fantasy novel at the same time. It was refreshing to have the main character be portrayed as a immoral/evil man and for the author to manage to make you feel sympathetic towards him and his plight. It was a quick read but a fascinating one…See More

Fun & Games by Duane Swierczynski

An actress survives various attempts on her life but then she meets Charlie Hardie, a house sitter ex-cop who helps her escape from the 'Accident People' who make accidents seem real and stage killings for rich and powerful people. As the author reveals secrets from both the actress and Charlie's past the book races to a violent and incredible climax. This is the 1st book in a trilogy and I can't wait…See More

"I really liked this book too - it's a shame that I took so long to read it! A very honest, moving and funny biography."

Seriously...I'm Kidding by Ellen Degeneres

I felt like I was having a conversation with Ellen Degeneres as I read this book as it's more a commentary on life then a true biography. She talks about how materialistic we are, how we don't listen to each other and how we take life too seriously. I found her comments on being an American Idol judge insightful and thoughtful and was interested about how her tv show is…See More

Billy Connolly's Route 66

Told in Billy Connolly's trademark wit and style, this was a fascinating book about the famous road Route 66. Filled with facts eg. like Al Capone invented expiration dates on milk and more statistics about roads and travel that I would normally read, this turned out to be an interesting and funny book. Now I just need to get the Dvd to see it in action!See More

Mud, Sweat and Tears by Bear Grylls

I have to admit I love Bear and after reading his autobiography I love him even more. Fascinating stories of his life pepper this book and it is an exciting and uplifting read. There are clear experiences that shaped his life: childhood, SAS, Shara (his wife) and Everest that…See More

Think of a number by John Verdon

A retired police detective is contacted by an old college friend who has received some threatening letters from an anonymous source who seems to be able to read his mind. The detective is intrigued by the puzzle of the case can't resist involving himself in the investigation. The story read like an overheard conversation which made it easy to follow and I couldn't pick the murderer till…See More

My reading plan for the year is that every 2 months I HAVE to read a book I have always meant to read but never got around too. So I am writing it down here to keep myself honest and to keep track!

Jan/Feb was The name of the wind - Patrick Rothfuss

Mar/Apr will be The screwtape letters - C.S. Lewis

Hopefully I will be able to keep to my schedule and lessen the amount of books on my 'To be read list!'
