Yes it was riveting, yes it was graphic in both violence and sex - often combined ! I enjoyed the way the author looked at the eight main characters, where thay had come from and their life experiences that had perhaps formed their opinions on 'the…

Hi MLB, This sounds good! I loved the quirky 'Salmon fishing in the Yemen' but wasn't really inspired by his second book. However I just may give this one a go. Merilyn

This is Torday's third book since the successful 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen'. This is a good read if you like part suspense, part psychological thriller and part ghost story but unfortunately it takes a while to reach the suspense, the thrill and…

Agreed agreed Bern ! Once I got my head around the wealthy Vanger family members (helped by the genealogical table at the front of the book) and the shifty dealings of the corporate world the stage was set for a thrilling page turner. Unlikely coupl…

I loved the way Bruce Pike looked back on his youth reliving the fear and adrenalin and Tim Winton's beautiful writing, but mostly I loved the fact Pike still surfs and in his words 'does something completely pointless and beautiful, and in this at…

The truth about these strange times - Adam Foulds

This book is from a first time author who is also a poet which I think is evident in the story with the very vivid descriptions of the characters and the situations the characters find themselves in. The story centres around the two main characters, Howard, a lonely 20 something overweight, shy, society misfit and Saul a ten year old, only child , who has the ability to perform amazing memory tricks. They are thrown together in unusual circumstances and different as they are, they decide to go on a journey without Saul's over protective parents knowledge. The situations they find themselves in and the characters they meet makes for some hysterical reading at times. I wouldn't say it is the most deep and meaningful book I've read but certainly entertaining and well worth a read.
